Elisa Pellegrini PhD

   Curriculum vitae

My research interest is on plant-soil interactions in flooded environments. I do research in Environmental Science, Soil Science and Plant Biology. I work on plant acclimation to environmental stresses and feedback mechanisms on soil mediated by plants.  I did research also on toxicity (sulfides) and biouptake (Hg), as well on species invasion. My interest spans from wild habitats to agroecosystems (e.g. fertilizers and microbiome).

Research and education in brief

I am currently working as assistant professor on abiotic stresses and their consequences on soils and plants, at the Environmental Soil Functionality group of the University of Udine.

In 2021, I held a Post doc position funded by the award For women in Science - L'Oréal-UNESCO

The project is about reed die-back and the involvement of climate change (grant amount 20,000.00 €). A video of the project aims and impacts is available (in Italian only) on youtube! Institution: University of Udine (IT)

From 2019 to 2021 I held a Marie  Skłodowska Curie fellowship at the University of Copenhagen (DK)

My project belongs to a MSCA IF H2020 grant (Grant_number 839542 - https://cordis.europa.eu/project/rcn/222136/factsheet/en, grant amount 207,312.00 €).

ROLLBAR project: Roots in armour - a barrier induced to protect against intrusion of soil phytotoxins?

From 2016 to 2019 I worked as a Post doc at the University of Udine (IT)

Research projects of different topics related to plant and soil relationships including plant nutrition, stress induced by submergence and toxic elements (e.g. mercury) and on plant invasion.

Institutions involved: SCAM S.p.A. (IT), University of Udine (IT), ARPA FVG (IT), Museum of Natural History of Udine (IT), FVG Regional Administration (IT), University of Copenhagen (DK)

In 2017 I defended my Ph.D. in Life and Environmental Science at the University of Trieste (IT)

Dissertation: Interactions between soil and plants in halophile systems: selection mechanisms and effects on pedogenesis.

Advisor: dr. Valentino Casolo, Co-advisor: prof. Maria De Nobili

Research network

I have a well-established collaboration with the Freshwater Biological Laboratory at the University of Copenhagen (DK), specifically with prof. Ole Pedersen and his team. He is an expert in flooding tolerance in plants and works intesively with rice (more info at flooding.dk).

I also collaborate with other national and international researchers.

Recent collaborations are with prof. Katarina Vogel-Mikuš from the University of Lubljiana and with prof. Iztok Arčon from the Department of Physics at the University of Nova Gorica (SLO), experts in the use of beamlines for characterisation of organic samples.

I collaborate with dr. Francesco Zonta and prof. Alfredo Soldati from the University of Wien (AT) in a project dealing with modeling of biological processes.

I am also in contact with prof. Klaus Koren from Aarhus University and prof. Ronnie Glud from the University of Southern Denmark, both experts in planar optodes.

I collaborate, and with prof. Ole Pedersen's group, with prof. Mikio Nakazono form Nagoya University (Japan), which is an expert in root traits in rice and their molecular regulation.
